INTRODUCTION: A brief overview of FIJET, when it was formed and the principles upon which it was founded.
Founded in Paris in 1954 by the National Associations of France and Belgium, FIJET is the oldest association of professional travel writers and journalists in the world. With a membership that currently exceeds 900 members in over 35 countries on five continents, it is also one of the world's largest professional organization of travel journalists. Over 25 affiliated National Associations represent FIJET in their respective countries and provide a professional base for the exchange of ideas and information. National Associations include groups in Algeria, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Libya, Luxembourg, Mexico, Morocco, Poland, Russia, Spain, Slovenia Sweden, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, and the USA.
HISTORY: A look at the nearly 60 year history of FIJET.
The Fédération Internationale des Journalistes et Ecrivains du Tourisme known by its acronym, FIJET (pronounced FEE-jet), was formed in Paris, France, as an association of tourism writers. The original founders were made up of groups from France and Belgium, together with Greece, Italy and the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg. FIJET celebrates its birth as December 2, 1954.

These bylaws of FIJET are based upon principles designed to:
* Contribute to the maintenance of peace and security throughout the world by strengthening co-operation between nations through culture, education and tourism
* Promote personal contact between and among civilizations and cultures
* Promote the free exchange of ideas through International Tourism
* Provide an environment where international media and tourism professionals engaged in journalistic travel, hospitality, and tourism industries can gather to exchange ideas and resources and promote International understanding and cooperation.
AWARDS: Information about the Pomme d'Or (Golden Apple Award)
"La Pomme d'Or" or "The Golden Apple" is the FIJET equivalent of the Oscar. This award for excellence is presented each year to an organization, country, city, or person in recognition of superior efforts in promoting and raising the level of tourism.
MEMBERSHIP: Information about who can join FIJET.
Journalist membership is available to working writers, photographers, editors, and broadcasters reporting on the travel industry and travel related topics.
Applicants should submit a minimum of 5 clips of published material or 5 video or audio tapes which have been aired during the past 12 month period. Photographers should submit copies of images that have accompanied at least 5 articles or stories or one published travel book.
WORLD HEADQUARTERS: Location of the FIJET World Headquarters.
The World Headquarters of FIJET is currently in Lyon, France.
In the past, FIJET has been headquartered in Prague, Czech Republic, the Dopagne Center in Belgium and in Mol, also in Belgium.
