During a very special ceremony on the banks of the Danube River, FIJET presented its Pomme d’Or (Golden Apple) award to the city Vukovar in celebration of 5,000 Years of Vučedol Culture.
The ceremony was presented under the auspices of Croatian Prime Minister, Mrs. Jadranka Kosor, who is also an honorary citizen of Vukovar, and sponsored by Croatian Ministry of Tourism and National Tourist Board.
For the ceremony, a boat with eight rowers brought the sculpture and then hand it to FIJET President, Tijani Haddad, who presented it to the Mayor of Vukovar, Željko Sabo.
Also in attendance were the Minister of Tourism Damir Baj, Croatian National Tourism Board Director Niko Bulić, and the mayors of Vukovar and Ilok.
The Vučedol Dove (which is the symbol of Vukovar) is also a symbol of peace, friendship and tolerance (everything FIJET strives for) and factors which Vukovar wants to build its future as one of the historic towns on the Danube River.
Members of the FIJET Board of Directors and Executive Committee, who were in Croatia for meetings, also attended the ceremony.
