Rules Governing FIJET Affiliate Members
Nov 14, 2011

Rules Governing Affiliate Members:

As stated in Section 4.09, subsection 4.01.1 of the FIJET Bylaws, “included in this category of membership are public relations professionals managing and servicing travel-related accounts for payment on behalf of an air or sea carrier, a ground operator, national, state, or regional tourist office, hotel, resort, or other recognized travel industry organization; educators and educational associations and universities specializing in travel related subjects; and tourism ministers, tourism ministries, or tourism departments of countries, cities, states, or regions.”

FIJET does not speak for this segment of the travel industry, but recognizes that they are a vital part of the process of gathering of information by working travel journalists and seeks to create a forum for communication and mutual benefit between these two groups.

Applicants must be in the active promotion of travel and tourism and in a position to provide guidance/information to the media; access to reduced rate travel; and access to photography for their respective destinations or products.

In addition to the criteria and categories set forth in the FIJET Bylaws (Section 4.09), Affiliate Members shall also adhere to the following rules:

  • Affiliate members are limited to no more than 10% of the total membership from a single National Association and no more than 10% of the total membership of FIJET.
  • Dues for Individual Affiliate Members will be 75-Euros per year. An Individual Affiliate member is defined as a single person working in the tourism industry who represents only his/her interests and not those of a company or corporation. Examples are freelance public relations representatives, the owner of a small (1-10 employees) travel agency, university professor, etc.
  • Dues for Corporate Members will be 500-Euros per year. A Corporate Member is defined as a person representing a major tourism entity, hotel chain, airline, ministry, government, college or university. Example are people who will represent such entities as Hilton Hotels, American Airlines, University of California, the Government of Romania, etc.
  • Affiliate members may not solicit, send mass emails or market directly to members promoting their products or clients without the explicit permission of the FIJET Executive Committee or their designated representative.
  • Affiliate members can attend a Congress if allowed by the host country, but the number of affiliate members attending will be limited to no more than 10% of the total number of people attending. The exact number of Affiliate members allowed to attend a Congress will be determined by the Executive Committee or their designated representative. In cases where space is limited, priority for attending a Congress will go first to the journalist member. Corporate Affiliate members will have priority over Individual Affiliate members.
  • Affiliate members are required to attend all special Affiliate sessions during a Congress that they attend.
  • Affiliate members are required to provide FIJET with an assessment of any Congress they attend. This assessment will include their observations and feelings about the destination, comments and suggestions about how to improve future Congresses, details on how they will use the information they gained during a Congress about the destination, suggestions to the host on how they can improve their tourism product, etc. This information must be provided to FIJET on the same deadline set for journalist members to submit their published articles.
