The JW Marriott Grand Hotel in Bucharest was home to FIJET during the openng days of the 53rd World Congress in this enchanting city. Surrounding us in luxury, the hotel was both an elegant setting and a relaxing home away from home for the delegates.
Besides offering the elegance befitting European royalty, it was perfectly located next to the stunning Parliament Palace, site of the Opening Ceremonies for the Congress. Additionally, it was close to sites that included the Bucharest National Opera House, the National Observatory, the Botanical Garden, the Arch Of Triumph, the Natural History Museum and Cismigiu Park. It was the perfect headquarters for visiting Bucharest.
Rules Governing Affiliate Members:
As stated in Section 4.09, subsection 4.01.1 of the FIJET Bylaws, “included in this category of membership are public relations professionals managing and servicing travel-related accounts for payment on behalf of an air or sea carrier, a ground operator, national, state, or regional tourist office, hotel, resort, or other recognized travel industry organization; educators and educational associations and universities specializing in travel related subjects; and tourism ministers, tourism ministries, or tourism departments of countries, cities, states, or regions.”
FIJET does not speak for this segment of the travel industry, but recognizes that they are a vital part of the process of gathering of information by working travel journalists and seeks to create a forum for communication and mutual benefit between these two groups.
It was with extreme sadness that we learned of the passing of Ozcan Sandikçioğlu – our friend and one of the leaders of FIJET for the past two decades.
Despite his many accomplishments – he was a member of the Istanbul Bar Association, President and manager of Tourism Press for the Turkish Travel writers and journalists Association (ATURJET) since 1991 and President of Miss Turkey Organization since 1980 (the license holder of Miss World Ltd, Miss Universe Inc. and many other international pageants) – Ozcan always made time for his colleagues in FIJET.
During a very special ceremony on the banks of the Danube River, FIJET presented its Pomme d’Or (Golden Apple) award to the city Vukovar in celebration of 5,000 Years of Vučedol Culture.
The ceremony was presented under the auspices of Croatian Prime Minister, Mrs. Jadranka Kosor, who is also an honorary citizen of Vukovar, and sponsored by Croatian Ministry of Tourism and National Tourist Board.
The 2011 FIJET World Congress will be held in magnificent Romania. The program will include some very special and exciting visits to the most important, romantic and exciting locations in this ancient and fascinating country.
The Congress begins in Bucharest where delegates will stay at the beautiful radisson BLU Hotel. The frist day brings the Opening Ceremony and General Assembly. Thanks to a very special arrangement with the government, those events will be held at the Palace of the Parliament. This amazing building – said to be the second largest government building in the world – is normally reserved for use by the government for official functions and the daily running of the government. (The U.S. Pentagon is the largest government building.)
