UBJET 60 YEARS YOUNG!

Founded in 1951, UBJET, the ‘Union of Belgian Journalists and Travel Writers’ is the oldest and largest association of its kind in Belgium. Right from the beginning it had ambitions objectives and no later than three years after it’s foundation it felt the need for an international umbrella: Belgium and the World.

So, together with AFJET, the French sister association, UBJET founded FIJET in 1954.

Let us go back to the origins. What is UBJET standing for? Nomen est omen: the name ‘UBJET’ itself summarises the essence of our association. In the first place, it is a ‘Union’ of Dutch speaking Belgians from the North and French speaking members from the South; a Union also from ‘Journalists and Travel Writers’ whether they use words, pictures or sound.

UBJET was founded with the following objectives:

• to unite Belgian writers, journalist and lecturers who deal with tourism in all its facets
• to facilitate their trips related to their production
• to promote their publications both in Belgium and abroad
• to enable them to get in touch with similar associations in other countries.

FIJET proved to be the perfect organisation for that..

UBJET has never interfered, and never will, with political, philosophical or religious issues.

This creed is still valid till today and is a guideline to the more than 100 members of our association today and also continues to attract new members who thrive in our associations’s friendly and tolerant atmosphere.
