Slovenia: Vintage press trip
Association of Travel Journalists hosted in september the 3. International Vintage of Travel Journalists for World Travel Press Wine in the Dolenjka wine-growing region near the Slovenian-Croatian border. This wine district is mostly known for cviÄek, the only officially recognised wine variety in the world beside the Tuscany chianti that is made from a blend of both red and white grapes.
Since 2001 cviÄek has been legally protected both within Slovenia and the European Union as a product of traditional denomination. FIJET Slovenia organized already three International Vintages of Travel Journalists, each time in another wine-growing region of Slovenia, but always autochthonous sorts of grapes were harvested. The first vintage was successfully organized in cooperation and in vineyards P&F Jeruzalem-Ormož and the second last year near the Slovenian-Italian border in wine region Brda-Collio. There grape-gathering of the autochthonous Brda variety Rebula was organized, which later was bottled in Wine Cellar Goriška Brda as World Travel Press Wine 2012. The third International vintage of Travel Journalist was organized in cooperation with Wine Cellar Krško and Center for enterprise development and tourism Krško. Grape for the speciality of the Wine cellar Krsko - dry sparkling wine Kraljevska penina - was gathered. The basic wine of this sparkling wine is cviÄek PTP (Recognized Traditional Denomination). After adding the liqueur it is left in the archive cellar for at least 10 months. Kraljevska penina will next year become the third Worl Press Wine of Travel Journalist. At the 3. International Vintage of Travel Journalists took part journalist from Austria, Czech Republic, USA, Canada, Croatia and Slovenia. During their stay they got to know Posavje in the southeast of Slovenia. It is one of the country’s most diverse regions. Foremost it is known as hilly wine-growing region with countless small vineyards, but also for natural, historical and cultural attractions as well as tasty traditional food.“Next year FIJET Slovenia will organize Vintage of Travel Journalist in another country, not in Slovenia, so the event will be even more international. This has been my intention from the very beginning , when the idea for such an event struck me,” says Drago Bulc, president of FIJET Slovenija.
